Environmentally friendly packaging solutions for your products

The environment means a lot to us and therefore we offer carton packaging that is a renewable resource

The environment plays a major role in our work at Emballagegruppen and we believe it is a shared responsibility to take care of our nature and to protect the environment. We supply packaging and printed matter to some of Denmark's most environmentally conscious companies. It is therefore vital for our customers and us that we can meet their requirements.

FSC® and ISO 14001

In our work with the environment, we have and comply with the ISO 14001 environmental certificate and the FSC® certificate.

Environmentally certified according to ISO 14001: 2015ISO

14001: 2015 is an internationally accepted standard for environmental management. The standard specifies what is required to form an environmental management system based on the company, its processes and activities. FSC® certified - sustainable forestry

FSC® is an international non-profit labeling scheme for wood and paper. The marking ensures that in an FSC forest no more trees are felled than the forest can reproduce. At the same time, FSC is a guarantee that animal and plant life is protected and that people working in the forest are guaranteed education, safety equipment and proper pay.

Environmental policy

Our environmental policy is ambitious and plays a major role in the way our employees work

We will reduce the resource consumption of energy and the amount of waste by continuously reducing the company's environmental impact in relation to existing and new initiatives.

We will meet ethical and environmental demands from society and its surroundings through dialogue and cooperation with the company's stakeholders, and, as far as possible, use products that do not harm the environment.

Cardboard packaging - your CO2 neutral choice

Select cardboard packaging for the sake of the environment, wood is the world's most eco-friendly raw material

When considering the environmental impact of packaging, it is important to think about the packaging´s entire life cycle - from the extraction of the raw material to its disposal, also known as a life cycle analysis (LCA) (link: When you choose cardboard you are choosing wood as your raw material, since cardboard is made from wood fibre. That means that you are using a material that nature creates itself, which is therefore renewable. Styrofoam and plastic on the other hand, are extracted from crude oil and coal, both of which are fossil fuels.

Wood is among other things produced by CO2, and wood absorbs and stores CO2 until it is felled. CO2 that otherwise would contribute to the greenhouse effect. The carbon dioxide that trees release while burning, is equal to what they previously have absorbed. This means that wood packaging is CO2 neutral. The burning of fossil fuels contributes negatively to the greenhouse effect because carbon, which previously has been stored in the soil is released. Therefore, carton has far less environmental impact than Styrofoam and plastic.

However, deforestation is still a major problem, and it is therefore important that you choose wood and paper that are FSC® (link) marked. Deforestation is still taking place outside Europe. It is primarily in the tropics, where people clear the areas to create space for non-sustainable agriculture and wood export. It is estimated that approximately 20 percent of the total CO2emission is caused by the lack of woodland to absorb CO2 from the air.

A sustainable packaging industry

The paper industry is one of the world's most sustainable industries (link: CEO Perspectives 2008, PricewaterhouseCoopers), so you contribute to a more sustainable world when you choose carton packaging

Packaging and printed matter of cardboard and paper can be recycled. In Europe, we have world records in recycled paper, and the European paper industry recycles 84 percent. Paper fibers can be recycled a few times, and it is therefore necessary to add 40 percent new paper fibers. Wood is a renewable resource and it can be used for energy recovery when it is no longer recyclable. Paper-based packaging is therefore the most eco-friendly packaging solution.

The paper industry accounts for only a small proportion of the world's total wood consumption. The paper industry's share is only 11 percent, while 53 percent is used for energy production and 28 percent on sawmills. In 2011, the paper industry accounted for only 1.1 percent of the world's CO2 emissions.

Whether you can use recycled paper depends on your product. Our competent staff can always assist you and are available for competent feedback and idea development. Whether you choose ordinary or recycled paper, your choice of paper is a contribution to a more sustainable world.
